Rialta: The Roleplaying Game
Ever seen those tabletop games where you roll a dice and play as a character going on adventures? Inspired by the mechanics of Dungeons and Dragons 5e, you can now explore familiar places like Rialta and Niran to far-off places yet to be discovered, all in the amazing world of the Crown Series.
And the best part? It's free!
Is it actually free?
Absolutely. As the author of the series is continually developing and expanding the game, all new resources will be published here for all to enjoy. All you need is dice, a pencil, and paper.
What the heck is an RPG?
RPG is short for "role-playing game." Each player creates a character to move around in the world and go on adventures as. They can be similar to you, or completely different. Together with your group of friends (also called a "party") you'll go on adventures led by a Gamemaster.
What the heck is a Gamemaster?
A Gamemaster (also known as a "GM" for short) is a single player chosen to run the game on behalf of the group. They don't have one individual character that they play as- rather, they describe the events of the game as they unfold. They voice every character your players meet along the way, whether it be a Big Bad Evil Guy or a simple shopkeeper. They keep the story moving along, interpreting the dice rolls of the player characters and presenting challenges. It's acting, storytelling, referee-ing, and playing god all at once.
How many people do I need to play?
Besides a Gamemaster, you'll typically need two or more players in order to keep things interesting.
This sounds insanely complicated and I'm scared
Don't worry, it's more scared of you than you are of it.
I'm still scared. There are so many rules!
Not really! Rule #1 have fun, rule #2 listen to the Gamemaster, and rule #3 no rerolling the dice unless the Gamemaster says you can.
Do I have to be a professional to be a Gamemaster?
Nope, absolutely no way. Despite "master" being in the name, you only kind of have to know what you're doing. You'll get the hang of it as you play. All it takes is practice, creativity, and a little bit of patience on the players part as you all figure out what you're doing. My advice is to find a podcast or YouTube video of a group playing an RPG and you'll pick it up right away. And remember, you're Gamemaster. You are the only one allowed to bend the rules, so if you don't remember what you're officially "supposed" to do? You get to make it up!
